Netscape Mail setup
From the main Netscape Mail screen, click Edit, then Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.
If this is the first time you have opened Mail, it may display the e-mail account wizard.
In the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window, click Add Account.
On the next screen, choose E-Mail Account, then click Next.
On the Identity screen, enter your "Display Name" and e-mail address. This is the name that you want to appear on the "From" line when you send e-mail to others. The name can be anything that you choose, however the e-mail address should be 'username@yourdomain.com' using the username previously set up in your site's control panel.
Enter your name and e-mail address , then click Next.
Next, the e-mail server names are requested. With all HostIdea accounts, the incoming mail server is a "POP" server. This is the default setting listed.
Depending on whether you previously had an e-mail account set up in Netscape Mail, this step may or may not ask for an outgoing mail server. If you also use Netscape Mail for other accounts, you should make no changes to your SMTP server info. This will not affect your mail usage on your HostIdea account.
Your e-mail server names for both incoming and outgoing mail are 'yourdomain.com', substituting the name of your particular web domain.
Enter your incoming and outgoing mail server names, then click Next.
- Incoming mail server is:
CT: pop.ct.metrocast.net
MD: pop.md.metrocast.net
ME: pop.metrocast.net
MS: pop.ms.metrocast.net
NH: pop.metrocast.net
PA: pop.pa.metrocast.net
SC: pop.sc.metrocast.net
VA: pop.va.metrocast.net
- Outgoing mail server is:
CT: smtp.ct.metrocast.net
MD: smtp.md.metrocast.net
ME: smtp.metrocast.net
MS: smtp.ms.metrocast.net
NH: smtp.metrocast.net
PA: smtp.pa.metrocast.net
SC: smtp.sc.metrocast.net
VA: smtp.va.metrocast.net
- MetroCast does not use secure socket authentication
The next step in the Account Wizard asks for your username. This would be the username that you set up in your site's control panel.
Basic/Standard Accounts - The username is always followed by '@yourdomain.com'. For example 'johndough@metrocast.net'
Premium Accounts - The username may be used just as it was entered into the control panel.
If you are unsure what type of account you have, follow the instructions for a Basic/Standard account. This will work in most cases.
You will be prompted for your password the first time you check your mail, and may choose to have your password stored at that time.
After filling in your username, click Next.
On the Account Name screen, change the setting to something memorable that indicates what e-mail address this account it is associated with.
The account name can be anything you choose. This is not a specific setting, and is only used as a reference within Netscape Mail. It is not absolutely necessary to change this setting however, it can be quite useful when dealing with multiple accounts or e-mail addresses.
After choosing an Account name, click Next.
The last screen of the Account Wizard asks you to confirm the information you have entered. To make any changes, click "Back". Once you are satisfied with the info entered, click "Finish" to be returned to the main Netscape Mail screen.
That's it! Your e-mail account is now set up and ready for use! To check your new e-mail account, click the "Get Msgs" button located on the left-hand side of Netscape Mail's toolbar.
